Cabinet painting

Cabinet painters in Palestine and Tyler, Texas

Kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities, sprayed on-site or in our shop for a factory-quality finish, at thousands less than replacing them.

Chapter 01

Cabinets fail at the surface, so the work starts there

A kitchen cabinet lives a hard life. Cooking grease drifts up and settles on the door faces, hands wear the finish around every pull, and the base cabinet beside the sink takes water at the toe kick. Paint does not stick to any of that. When a painted cabinet peels at the edges or scuffs through to bare wood, it is almost never the topcoat that failed. It is the grime, the glossy old finish, or the missing primer underneath.

So the first day on a cabinet job is cleaning, deglossing and sanding, not painting. Outdated oak is a common starting point, and its open grain shows through thin paint unless it is filled and primed, so we plan for that before a coat of color is ever mixed. The doors come off, the boxes get masked, and nothing gets color until the surface is ready to hold it. Whether the kitchen is in Palestine or in Tyler, the order of work is the same.

Sprayed, not brushed: on-site or in the shop

We spray cabinets because a sprayed finish lays down flat, with no brush marks and no roller stipple. That is the difference between a factory-quality finish and one that looks like a weekend project. There are two ways to do it. Doors and drawer fronts can go back to our shop, where they are sprayed flat and dry out of your way, or the whole job can be sprayed on-site with your floors, counters and appliances protected. We will tell you which one fits your kitchen.

A stain-to-paint conversion is the biggest change a kitchen can get without buying new cabinets. Dark stained wood goes under primer first, because stain and old finish bleed and blotch when they are painted straight over. Then comes the color. We match to a swatch, to the wall color in the room, or to a sample you hand us, and we talk it through with you before anything is sprayed.

Hardware gets decided at the same time. New pulls mean filling old holes and drilling fresh ones, which is far easier before the final coats than after. We handle hardware installation and updates as part of the job.

Chapter 03

What you live with afterward

A cabinet finish has to survive years of wet hands, steam and wipe-downs.

Bathroom vanities are the hardest test. They sit in shower steam, with standing water around the sink, so they get moisture-resistant products and techniques rather than the same coat we would put on a pantry door. Edges and door bottoms get sealed because that is where moisture gets in first. A vanity that is done properly keeps its color and wipes clean.

Painting the inside of the cabinet boxes is optional and comes down to preference and budget. Many homeowners paint only the surfaces they see. And give the finish time: paint can feel dry long before it is fully hard, so go easy for the first few weeks, use a soft cloth and mild soap, and skip the scrubbing and the harsh cleaners.

Two jobs, two coats

Paint it, or refinish it

Most kitchens in Palestine and Tyler need one of these two, and the walkthrough is where we sort out which. The pages are close cousins, so here is the short version of the fork.

This page

Paint it

The boxes and doors are sound and the color is what you are tired of. We prep, prime and spray a new color, on-site or in the shop. Stain-to-paint conversions live here, along with custom color matching and new hardware.

Book a walkthrough and we will tell you whether yours is a paint job.

The other page

Refinish it

The finish itself has given out, or you want a full reset. The old finish is stripped, the wood is sanded, and multiple finish coats go on over primer. Distressed and glazed looks, and the 7 to 10 day shop schedule, are covered there.
